Eli Lilly Registers Phase 3 Trials for EloraTZP, Its Eloralintide-Tirzepatide Obesity Combination
Two ClinicalTrials.gov records first posted October 19, 2026 show Eli Lilly has begun Phase 3 testing of EloraTZP, a coformulation of the investigational amylin-receptor agonist eloralintide and the approved GIP/GLP-1 drug tirzepatide, in adults with obesity with and without type 2 diabetes.
Eli Lilly and Company has moved EloraTZP, its combination of the investigational amylin-receptor agonist eloralintide and the approved drug tirzepatide, into Phase 3 testing, according to two trial records first posted on ClinicalTrials.gov on October 19, 2026. The records describe NCT07881458 and NCT07881432, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies evaluating the coformulated product, internally coded LY900043, for body weight reduction.
NCT07881458 will enroll an estimated 1,000 adults who have type 2 diabetes and are obese or overweight, comparing EloraTZP against tirzepatide alone over a planned 100-week treatment period. NCT07881432 will enroll a larger group, an estimated 2,115 adults who are obese or overweight without type 2 diabetes, with arms for EloraTZP, tirzepatide alone, eloralintide alone, and placebo. Both trials list Eli Lilly and Company as lead sponsor, are listed as not yet recruiting with no study sites posted, and share a primary outcome measure of percent change in body weight from baseline to week 100. The registry records list planned start dates of November 2026 and December 2026, respectively, with both trials' primary completion dated October 2029.
Eloralintide, Lilly's selective amylin-receptor agonist also known by the code LY3841136, is not approved by any regulator. A completed Phase 2 monotherapy trial of eloralintide, NCT06230523, posted results on ClinicalTrials.gov in June 2026: at week 48, the least-squares-mean percent change in body weight ranged from -9.4% at the lowest tested dose (1 mg once weekly) to -20.1% at the highest dose tested (9 mg once weekly), compared with -0.4% for placebo, across 263 randomized participants. Eloralintide alone is also already enrolling in two further Phase 3 trials, NCT07321886 (adults with obesity or overweight without type 2 diabetes, estimated 1,980 participants) and NCT07392190 (adults with persistent obesity already on a weekly incretin therapy, estimated 900 participants), both listed as recruiting.
The eloralintide-tirzepatide combination itself has already completed a separate Phase 2b trial, NCT06603571, which enrolled 367 adults with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes and compared eloralintide and tirzepatide, alone and in combination, over roughly 64 weeks. That trial is listed as completed on ClinicalTrials.gov, but as of this writing no results have been posted to the registry, so no verified efficacy or safety figures for the combination are available from that source.
Neither eloralintide nor EloraTZP is approved by the FDA, the European Medicines Agency, Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration, or any other regulator, and no New Drug Application has been filed for either. Tirzepatide itself is FDA-approved and marketed as Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and as Zepbound for chronic weight management. The newly posted trial records describe planned study design only; no efficacy or safety outcomes from either new Phase 3 trial have been reported, and this article does not constitute treatment or dosing guidance.
